Supplies:
Step
1: Begin by deciding what type of pie you will make. If you
are making a pie with a topper or crust ring you will not need the pie
crust. The pie crust is used for open top pies. Below are examples of
what a pie topper, ring or crust looks like.

Pie
Crust goes inside pie tin.

Pie
Crust Topper will go on top of pie tin - |

Pie
Crust Ring will go on top of pie tin - middle is open.

Step
2: Next, double wick your pie tin - this means that you need to secure
the the wicks to the bottom of the pie tin or pie crust by using a hot
glue gun or wick stickers. The wicks need to be spaced evenly between
each other and the edges of the tin. (Once you've made a few pies and
test burned them, you can try triple wicks and see if you like that
combination better).
Step
3: With the wicks securely in place you are now ready to pour some scented
and colored gel in the bottom. (Note: We color our strawberry gel red,
blueberry gel blue, etc. Our mixed fruit we color a very light peach.)
Pour about 2 oz. of gel in the bottom (You'll have to experiment a little.
We do this so the bottom of our pie isn't taken up with all our wax
embeds).
NOTE: Be sure you tug on your wicks with the following steps so it stays straight
and up-right through the gel and fruit.
Step
4: Next arrange a few pieces of fruit to cover the surface of the gel.
If you're using the crust, pile it as high as you are going to want
it. If you're using the topper or ring, use just one layer and then
set the lattice on top to be sure it sits on the pan. If you get too
much fruit, the lattice will be lifted off the pan.
Step
5: Once you've placed as much fruit as you can with the pie crust topper
or ring still resting on the pie tin, then pour your colored/scented
gel over the fruit until it reaches almost the top of the tin. The goal
here is to pour it just high enough that the crust will be resting in
the gel without the gel overflowing your pie tin. Once the gel sets
your lattice top will be stuck!
NOTE: It's ok if you have to bend a wick a little to make it fit through the
hole of a pie topper like the lattice top. Once the candle is lit and
the wax lattice melts, the wick will no longer be bent and will be burning
in the place it was set in the gel. Just be sure you tug on your wicks
with all the previous steps so it stays straight and up right through
the gel and fruit. You will want to check out our large selection of wax toppers which can be used to give
this project a fresh look!
